Recycling King

It is against the law to not recycle in Cambridge. It is clear that Isaac was born here and has this passion in his blood. He is a true Cantabrigian and has a real love for recycling (or at least playing with the recycling).

Our little computer geek

Isaac recently got a really fun toy. He is fascinated with my laptop and is consistently trying to help me with my work. So, a coworker hunted down an old keyboard at work that was no longer being used. I brought it home from work and this is what happened.

Unfortunately, Isaac is still totally fascinated with my laptop and has managed to pop off the 1 key several times. I am getting a lot better at popping it back on, though. I guess this is one of those skills learned in motherhood?

Little techie

Isaac has a love for anything electrical. Maybe he will be an electrical enginerd. For his snack this afternoon, he was not willing to relinquish the USB cable for the camera while he ate (at least until I gave him his really good snacks).

We're back

Isaac's new year is off to a great start. We have been really busy, but doing well. We have had trips to New Haven, Warwick, CT and Nashua for church over the last couple of weeks. Isaac is a great traveler. We have discovered, with all of this car time, that he eats a lot better when he is strapped in and has nothing else to do. This week we had some great weather that melted a lot of the snow and ice. On a particularly pleasant day, I took Isaac to the park and plopped him on the swing. He has historically loved the swings. This time he was doing his half laugh half cry thing. I guess that two months of cold weather and no time at the park has taken its toll on his sense of adventure outside (he is plenty adventurous indoors, and has the bruises to prove it).

Isaac turns one in just 11 more days. I can't believe it (but I sort of can). We have had quite the year.

The bouncy chair has probably been the most useful baby item we have had (except the crib?). Isaac did great in it when he was not mobile and now he loves to climb on it and play with it. At day care, his teachers have learned that they sometimes need to either let him go with the younger babies or bring a bouncy chair to him so he can play with it for a while and get his bouncy chair fix in. It is common for us to find him there bouncing a chair with some little baby that is trying to sleep. He has not learned to be really gentle, just yet.

Isaac does like normal toys, too. This one is compliments of Aleks' co-worker.

Meal time is becoming more exciting. Isaac has learned about throwing his food when he does not want to eat it. It is pretty effective. I spent time yesterday on my hands and knees cleaning up all the crusty food that had dried there. his favorite foods are chili, jambalaya and anything spicy and flavorful. Bye, bye baby food, hello really smelly diapers.

Often when one of us is showering, Isaac starts to get excited and crawls to the bathroom and pears in. He manages to get everything pretty wet, but thinks it is one of the funniest things in the world.

He still likes his bath time (contrary to what the second photo is showing here). He gets so
excited and hyper that he now has a few bruises to show for it. I guess that is part of being a growing boy.

Aleks took this yesterday without me knowing. I probably wouldn't have let him do it since I fear waking Isaac up. After playing in his crib for about an hour, Isaac finally fell asleep like this and stayed this way for most of his really long nap. I went for a run, Aleks took a two hour nap and I did a lot of cleaning before he woke up. What a life!

Bye, bye beard

Hello lamb chops (for a couple of minutes).

Five o'clock shadow

I am not sure what Isaac did in the minute when I was not looking, but he managed to get a premature five o'clock shadow.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays!

We had a great Christmas break in Utah and Idaho. It has been a slow adjustment back to real life (and eastern time). Thankfully one piece of this is that Isaac slept in the first few days back. That was really, really nice. Unfortunately he is figuring out east coast time again.

We started off our trip by heading down to Monroe to spend some time with Grandpa and Grandma White on the ranch. It was really great. They had just had a big snowstorm, so it was beautiful. Aleks took some great shots, but it takes too long to upload them here, so I have only included a couple.

We also headed down to Zion's and enjoyed some fantastic scenery. Isaac got to try out his Christmas present a little early-a hiking pack. He thankfully seemed to really enjoy it so there is hope for our hiking future.

After a great time in Monroe, we headed back north to my parents and managed to take advantage of affordable babysitting to see the lights at temple square. It was nice, even though it was cold. Unfortunately all of downtown is being ripped up so there was no where to go for hot chocolate to warm up.

The next day we hopped in the car and headed farther north to Idaho to spend Christmas with my sister and her family. The drive there was treacherous with snow. We saw several cars off the side of the road.
Once there, we had a great Christmas. Isaac loved to explore the Christmas tree and the gifts there. It snowed a lot and felt really homey. The day after Christmas, Jill and I went to a gym class that totally destroyed me. I was stiff for almost a week. It was great!

Here are some photos from Christmas day:

Isaac with cousin Peter exploring on Christmas morning.

Sophie reading a story to him that she gave him.

Grandma with all her grandkids.

The very clever puppet show that the girls put on for us. We even had snack bags and tickets.

Our version of the nativity. The donkey did a really great job.

Peter and Isaac were old enough to actually look at each other and sort of interact. I think that they will be trouble in a few years, given the chance.

At my parents, Isaac got to use to the same high chair I used as a kid. Amazing that it is still around and in such great shape. Isaac is a pretty wiggly eater, so he kept wiggling himself into all sorts of awkward positions in this. Thankfully his high chair at home does not allow him too move much.

Isaac was having a blast playing on the bed our last night there.
